Do you struggle with the symptoms of memory loss?
If you are beginning to notice the signs of brain fog, forgetfulness, declining cognitive function, mixing up your words, asking the same questions repeatedly or taking longer to perform normal tasks, these are all signs and symptoms of memory loss. These are early warning signs of abnormal brainwave function that are often associated with the inability to process information optimally. If left untreated, this can lead to dementia.
Studies indicate that for the elderly population, physical and cognitive dysfunction are two of the most feared conditions because they can lead to physical dependency, inability to communicate with other properly, social isolation, and a general loss of independence.
Regardless of whether you are trying to learn a new skill or hobby, go shopping, drive on the road, interact with your children and grandchildren, plan and cook dinner, pay your bills, manage your medications, or manage any other daily activities and relationships, it is necessary for you to use your memory, concentration, information processing and decision-making abilities.
As we age, many of us may experience gradual and sometimes rapid cognitive functioning deterioration (aging brain) and impairment. We may start to forget things that we would always remember in the past, it may take us longer to think and process through a problem, we may sometimes feel “foggy” and not sure of what to do, and worse. As we start to experience some of these symptoms, we may begin to feel more anxious or worried, we may become less confident in our abilities, we may get stressed and irritable faster, we may be less mobile, we may tire faster, we may feel depressed and isolated, and so on.
Even when brain changes or deterioration occurred due to aging, it does not mean that it is a one-way downhill slide. The is significant research data to indicate that brain plasticity and cognitive functioning of an aging person can be improved and optimized with proper cognitive stimulation, exercises, and task-training, and that doing so can induce lifelong brain plasticity.
Neuroplasticity is your brain’s ability to create new neural pathways. This puts you in the driver’s seat of reclaiming and optimizing your health. Your brain is not hard-wired, it is not limited or fixed in its abilities to heal.

A comprehensive intake and qEEG Brain Map Assessment
This process allows us to read the frequency of areas across the brain. Much like a weather map that shows high and low temperatures, this map will show brain frequency and which areas may be over or under signaling that may be contributing to symptoms within the body.
Based on your unique brain map results, we will let you know what we have found and if we can help. If a brain frequency imbalance is detected, we will advise what specific neurofeedback protocols can help to improve your health. When the imbalance is detected and neurofeedback is performed, brainwave frequencies are optimized for improved function, health and wellbeing.
Neurofeedback Therapy
Neurofeedback, also known as EEG Biofeedback, is a guided exercise for the brain that is shown to help normalize brainwaves. It is a learning modality designed to retrain abnormal brainwave patterns using a system of audio and visual feedback. Neurofeedback is safe, long-lasting and has no side effects. This type of therapy can help shift the way the brain produces and distributes electrical energy. There are five divisions of electrical impulses made by your brain: Delta, Theta, Alpha, Beta and Gamma. These specific brainwaves are called “Frequency Bands”.
Frequency Bands and Daily Life
During normal daily activities such as balancing our check books or following directions in class, certain areas of our brain will need to be active and using the faster frequency brainwaves called Beta. On the other hand, if after a long day we wish to relax and wind down, a different part of the brain will need to be activated using the slower brainwave frequency called Alpha. The goal of Neurofeedback is to improve the brain’s ability to self-regulate, maintain flexibility, and smoothly shift between states of relaxation and arousal. Since the Brain also controls Attention Regulation, Emotional Regulation and Affect Regulation, this ultimately allows the entire Central Nervous System to resume normal functioning.
Core Cognitive skills can be developed, maintained, and strengthen with advanced cutting-edge technologies offered at Zone Health & Performance Psychology, such as:
We will help you to improve your cognitive capacities, and other functional abilities needed to regain a degree of your mental functioning abilities that might have eroded as well as to slow-down the deterioration that you may be experiencing. At the same time, we will also support you in dealing with the psychological effects of your cognitive functioning deterioration and impairment. Ultimately, it is critical to preserve your cognitive functioning and psychological wellness as they are among the most essential elements in maintaining a healthy, active, and independent lifestyle for everyone throughout the ages.
Why is Neurofeedback Therapy so Effective?
This type of treatment takes advantage of the brain’s ability to change itself through a process called as Neuroplasticity. It utilizes the same learning process that occurs whenever we acquire a new skill. The brain learns by forming connections between nerve cells and utilizing important pathways that connect different locations in the brain. The more frequently you utilize these pathways the better the brain becomes at performing the associated task. In the field of psychology, this type of learning is known as “Operant Conditioning”. It is a type of learning in which responses come to be controlled by their consequences. Quite simply, this therapy offers the perfect learning conditions, because it facilitates awareness of when the brain is producing healthier brainwave patterns, provides reinforcement for the positive change and multiple opportunities to provide practice during a training session.
Results from neurofeedback training are seen gradually, over time. Initial progress can be seen within 15-20 sessions for most conditions. A typical treatment program consists of between 40 and 60 sessions depending upon the severity of the brain map and conditions being addressed.
The number of sessions may vary depending on the clients’ individual needs.
Counselling/Therapy
The counselling/therapy sessions offered at Zone will be customized to your needs. This can include support in stress management, dementia, Alzheimer’s, Parkinson’s and much more. Different psychological and therapeutic approaches in counselling (e.g., individual, couple, or family) will be utilized to achieve client success and help work through the aging process and factors related to aging.
Zone Health & Performance Psychology can provide extensive multi-dimensional testing, results, interpretation, and recommendations tailored to the specific needs of each client. In addition to providing counselling services for the individual clients dealing with memory loss issues, we can also provide counselling services for their caregivers. As a caregiver of someone with an aging brain, we know that it can be difficult to not only care for your loved one but to care for yourself as well. We have many resources available to assist you to be the best caregiver you can be while also taking care of yourself.

WHAT WILL YOU GET OUT OF IT?
The intended outcome of this program is to combat the effects that aging has on the brain by tailoring each package based on the initial assessment. You will see improvement in cognitive skills such as attention and focus, working memory, processing speed, decision making, reaction time, peripheral vision, and problem solving.
As the brain begins to age it is important to stay confident in your capabilities in tasks such as driving, shopping, house chores, navigating large crowds – and we want to help you by making it easier to complete these daily tasks.
CRITERIA FOR PARTICIPATION
For this program to be most effective you must be willing to commit to an active treatment program including multiple weekly appointments and adhering to specific lifestyle requirements such as a balanced diet, physical activity, and limited screen time.
We start by using advanced qEEG (Quantitative Electroencephalography) technology that precisely measures your unique brainwave activity. It is performed to investigate brain wave patterns associated with concentration and attention.
The assessment usually takes between 3-4 hours and consists of:
