Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) is a neurodevelopmental illness that has been detected since at least the 1700s. This condition is quite prevalent, with one out of every five children believed to have ADHD in Canada. The following are some of the most typical symptoms of ADHD: trouble focusing, impulsiveness, high energy, and difficulty staying still. Some things or not enough on other things.
Do you or someone you love struggle with ADHD?
If you or your loved one are still experiencing these issues and have reached the limits of current/past treatment, contact us to learn more about our Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder Treatment Program.
Individuals with ADHD frequently have difficulties with executive function and mood management, which might make accomplishing tasks and maintaining relationships difficult.
The number of children diagnosed with ADHD continues to increase, but researchers don’t know why. Currently, it’s estimated that 1.1 million Canadian adults have ADHD. Unfortunately, ADHD remains under-recognized and underdiagnosed even though it is one of the most treatable psychiatric disorders in Canada.
ADHD has three main types: Hyperactive-Impulsive, Inattentive, and Combined. These types have different symptoms that can have a big impact on people’s lives, especially children and adults.
Data from the Canadian Community Health Survey showed a prevalence of ADHD reaching 2.7% in adults aged 20 years and older, a neurological disorder that affects attention and impulse control. People with ADHD often have difficulty focusing on tasks, completing work on time, or keeping track of their belongings. They may also be impulsive and easily distracted. While diagnosis and treatment of ADHD can be challenging, there are many strategies that can help people manage the condition. With proper care, most people with ADHD can lead successful lives.
At Zone Health & Performance Psychology, we strongly believe that effective assessment and treatment procedures for ADHD should be multi-modal. The assessment and potential diagnosis of ADHD is not an easy fifteen-minute doctor’s visit.
It’s hard to manage ADHD, especially when people are looking for a cure. Western medicine tries to fix the problem by handing out medications, but these drugs only mask some of the symptoms. Furthermore, they can have unintended negative effects, such as decreased growth or sleep difficulties. It’s gotten even worse since most of the common medicines given include adverse side effects like personality changes and suicidal thoughts.
Certain medicines for ADHD can cause anxiety, agitation, and worry. This is due to their activation of the central nervous system. These are only a few of the adverse effects that they may have. Others include hallucinations, muscular twitching, high blood pressure, and severe mood swings. There are ways to help manage ADHD symptoms without always depending on prescription stimulants. Zone Health & Performance Psychology offers natural non-pharmaceutical evidence-based treatments and methods that work with your brain rather than against it in order to provide long-term benefits.
Adults diagnosed with ADHD also experience similar difficulties because they don’t absorb important information and frequently make errors, like forgetting important deadlines or requests. This can have a profound impact on interpersonal relationships, job performance, and quality of life.
People of any age with ADHD have a hard time understanding where their problems come from. They feel like everyone is out to get them, and they become hypervigilant, angry, and defensive. This makes it difficult to figure out what is going on. That’s why it is important to have a qEEG brain map done before starting
Neurofeedback is a treatment for ADHD that has been clinically proven to be effective.
Neurofeedback is a natural approach that is backed by more than 50 years of research and it addresses the underlying factors that contribute to ADHD.
There are treatments for ADHD that do not involve stimulants.
Neurofeedback training is a way to help people focus better and stay concentrated on tasks for a longer period of time. This type of training is also known to have a similar effect to stimulants, in that it increases the person’s “natural guards” to avoid impulsive actions. Most children who are already taking medication can continue to do so while they are training. In most cases, the dosage can be gradually reduced as the child learns how to self-regulate. Often, the need for medication is eliminated, but this cannot be guaranteed and depends on the individual.
Neurofeedback training is different from therapy or treatment by medication. With neurofeedback training, children learn how to control their own behavior. They learn this by recognizing what is happening in their own brains. This feedback is just a tool to help them learn self-regulation.
The ADHD Neurofeedback program offered by Zone Health & Performance Psychology can be conducted either:
At our office, it takes approximately three to five months to complete depending on the severity of the symptoms that the client is experiencing. This is conducted through a minimum of twice-weekly sessions.
You can do our professional neurofeedback training at home. We will give you a personal plan and remote support to help you achieve the best results. People who use this approach train their brain waves every day by playing games or watching movies that are special for this.

Zone’s Educational and Health Performance Program
Unlike stimulants, neurofeedback training has shown to have a direct long-term effect on increasing the person’s ability to remain focused and spend extended periods of time concentrating in a problem-solving manner.
In addition, neurofeedback has shown to have a similar effect to stimulants, in that it increases the child’s “natural guards” to inhibit or avoid impulsive actions. Children already taking medication can continue while training. In most cases, it is possible to gradually reduce the dosage as self-regulation is mastered. Frequently, the need for medication is eliminated, but results are not guaranteed and are subject to the individual.
Neurofeedback training is the opposite of therapy or treatment by means of medication. In neurofeedback training, children quickly recognize that no one is doing “it” to them. They are totally in control, responsible, empowered and working it out for themselves. This feedback is nothing more or less than a useful tool which allows them to learn self-regulation.
The ADHD Neurofeedback program offered by Zone Health & Performance Psychology can be conducted either:
We start by using advanced qEEG (Quantitative Electroencephalography) technology that precisely measures your unique brainwave activity. It is performed to investigate brain wave patterns associated with concentration and attention.
