The reason why adults feel compelled to hide. Is because they often have been told that their symptoms are because they are not trying hard enough. Such as they are lazy, or that they are not trying hard enough.

When the truth is, they are often working much harder than their peers. Just to get the same accomplished. As well, the coping mechanisms are designed.

Two help them accomplish the same amount. And because of that, things often go unnoticed by loved ones. But the more people are aware of the symptoms of ADD and ADHD in adults.

The more likely loved ones have the right to notice and recommend they go see psychologist Edmonton. In order to help them manage their symptoms, and get the help that they need.

The three common symptoms of ADD and ADHD include hyperactivity, inattentiveness, and impulsivity. In children, they manifest in very overt ways. With hyperactivity coming out as climbing furniture or running around.

However, in adults, when they are hyperactive. They often feel anxious, restless, or fidgety. And often compensate. By taking jobs where they do not have to sit at a desk all day.

Another symptom of ADD or ADHD is impulsivity. Shows up in childhood, as getting up in running around, when they are told to stay at their desk and sit still. Or talking out of turn.

In adulthood, it may manifest as dominating a social conversation and talking too much, or delaying in starting projects or finishing them. And individuals frequently use coping strategies to compensate for this. Setting phone reminders to encourage them to accomplish goals such as giving themselves objectives when they begin or finish something.

Finally, the third symptom of ADD or ADHD is being inattentive. Particularly in children, they often are not paying attention to a lesson, or are unable to follow directions.

However, in adults, it manifests as not being able to remember a conversation. Or, while trying to follow a conversation, they become distracted by external noise or activities.

And they often compensate for this, by making lists, or recording conversations. So that they do not forget the important details.

When people understand how ADD and ADHD present in adults. People as well as their loved ones are going to be able to identify themselves, or their loved ones. That will allow them to go to psychologist Edmonton for diagnosis and treatment.

Even though ADD and ADHD were once thought to be childhood disorders says psychologist Edmonton. Doctors now realize that adults can suffer from this as well.

And while five point 3% of Canadian children are affected and 70% of these children carry their symptoms into adulthood. The fact that just over 2% of adults have this diagnosis.

This means that there are many undiagnosed adults, who may have a difficult time in life. Because of the symptoms that they have. This is why it is very important to get the right diagnosis.

Another issue is that people were labeled as children. Or even as adults. However, they were advised that the only option was strong narcotics. And they did not want to take drugs on a daily basis. Or they didn’t care for the adverse effects of these medicines, which were classified in the same class as cocaine, morphine, and amphetamines

Or, they did try these drugs such as Ritalin or Adderall. But we’re not able to tolerate the side effects. Because the side effects can often be more disorienting than the symptoms of ADD and ADHD.

And many people simply want to avoid medication whenever they can. In favor of more natural treatments. However, they may not have been told that any existed.

When patients come to psychologist Edmonton. Not only will they know that there are other treatments available, other than medication. But that they are on the leading edge of technology with their nonpharmaceutical treatments.

They use a technology called Nero feedback. That allows the psychologist to place sensors on the patient’s scalp. And they can measure brain waves this way. In order to determine what brain waves are present.

Which will facilitate giving feedback to the brain, in order to tell it where it is overreacting, as well as under-reacting. Which the brain uses in order to heal itself.

Since ADD and ADHD is neurodevelopment disorders. That happened by missing brain connections when the brain was developing. Before the patient was born.

This process allows the brain to make those connections that were first missed. So that the symptoms associated with ADD and ADHD can be minimized, and the symptoms are less prevail.

In fact, they have many different diagnostic tools at their disposal. They will do those diagnostic tests before treatment. And then partway through treatment. They will do the tests again.
